The Salon Wrap-Up for April 8, 2018: "Hard To Handle"

What a fun theme we had on tap this week at The Salon, which inspired so many varied song choices... "Hard To Handle."

Our Co-Host was Multiple Award Winner & Broadway Veteran Raissa Katona Bennett! Raissa’s Theatre Credits include PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Broadway), CATS & PARADE (National Tours). She's also on the Board of The Salon, and we absolutely love having her with us.

Raissa will be appearing in FUN HOME at The Music Theatre of Connecticut - 509 Westport Avenue Norwalk, CT 06851 - April 20th through May 6th (Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 4pm & 8pm and Sundays at 2pm). She will also be at The Laurie Beechman Theatre – 407 West 42nd St, NYC 10036 – in CAN’T HELP SINGING – The Music of Jerome Kern with her latest CD Release on April 26th at 7pm & May 3rd at 7pm. Her previous CD, ANOTHER KIND OF LIGHT can be found on itunes & amazon. Our Salon Spotlight featured Broadway Veteran Rachel Ulanet! Rachel’s Broadway Credits include LovemusikBeauty and the Beast, and King David. To start her set, Rachel sang a unique and jazzy version of Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed." She followed that with a lovely, delicate mashup of Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" and Billy Joel's "River of Dreams." She finished her set by telling a story about her first time seeing a Broadway show with her mother, and sang a song from that show: "Ease On Down" from The Wiz.

She will be making her solo cabaret debut at Feinstein’s/54 Below – 254 West 54th St, NYC 1019 – in KEEP ME SEARCHING on May 29th at 7pm. For more information: www.rachelulanet.com / www.54below.com

Quick Wrap - Jon's Corner

Our Guest Host/Pianist was Jon Weber! Jon has recorded and toured all over the world, winning numerous honors for performance and composition. His newest critically-acclaimed release, SIMPLE COMPLEX, was voted "Best Album of the Year" BY: The Chicago Tribune, Italian National Radio, Norwegian National Radio, Swiss National Radio, Estonian National Radio, The BBC Online & Sirius XM Jazz. Jon also hosts NPR’s “Piano Jazz with Jon Weber” after frequently serving as guest host for Marian McPartland.

For Jon's Corner, Jon played a handful of his favorites:

"The Perpetrator," a song written in 1988 by Michael Mossman -- perfect title for tonight's theme.

For his second song, he decided to honor Dave Frishberg's recent birthday by singing his song, "The Dear Departed Past." He followed that by another one of Frisberg's beloved songs.
