It was a a completely packed room at Salon this Sunday night, as singers and cabaret fans opted to celebrate Grammy night with us. We were thrilled to welcome back producer Tanya Moberly after she was away directing a show in Los Angeles. And she leapt back into action, as you can see from this photo where she's fixing our piano bench!

After getting the evening under way, Tanya and Mark ushered in tonight's theme: BROADWAY LEGENDS. Our Co-Host was Bistro & Julie Wilson Award Winner Shana Farr, with her pianist Jon Weber! Shana started the evening with a beautiful, "Till There Was You" from The Music Man. Between verses of the song Shana began to tell us about the legendary Barbara Cook, the subject of her upcoming show and inspiration for our theme. For her mid-show set, she began with a medley which included songs like "This Is All Very New To Me," from Plain and Fancy, "Goodnight My Someone" from The Music Man, and "Will He Like Me" from She Loves Me. She followed that with a delicate and expressive "Anyone Can Whistle" from the musical of the same name. To complete this set she told us a story about Barbara Cook's ability to take the troubles of her life and pour them into her art - and then sang a heartbreaking, "Losing My Mind" from Follies. To end the evening, she sang an upbeat (and aptly-placed-in-the-show), "It's Not Where You Start, It's Where You Finish" which sent us home in the best of moods.

Our Salon Spotlight features Carole Demas (the original Sandy in GREASE) and Sarah Rice (the original Johanna in SWEENEY TODD)! Carole and Sarah have also both played Luisa in THE FANTASTICKS. They started their set with the lovely, "My Cup Runneth Over" in duet form. Then we had a real treat - both lovely ladies gave us songs they originated - Sarah sang "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" from Sweeney Todd, and Carole sang "Meadowlark" from The Baker's Wife. They finished their set with the Jones/Schmidt tune, "Celebration," with Joe helping on backing vocals.

Quick Wrap - Classical Corner
Mark Janas kicked off this week's Classical Corner by introducing us to baritone Mark Watson and composer Robert Cohen. Robert shared the history of the songs we were about to hear - for most of his music, he chooses poems from the 18th and 19th century and puts them to music. Tonight's songs were poems by Shelley and Wordsworth and were absolutely stunning.
