The Salon Wrap-Up for August 2, 2015 - "Bits and Pieces"

August 2, 2015
Theme: “Bits and Pieces”

Our Co-Hosts for the evening on Sunday, Dana Lorge and Warren Schein, certainly had us in "Bits and Pieces" or "fits and starts" or just happy smiles as they hosted the PACKED audience! The waiters had to get more tables and chairs in the back, and we were encouraged to keep the downtime quick between numbers. Thankfully, this meant Dana and Warren introduced a huge number of singers up to the stage, many from the Cabaret elite, plus a few first-timers, including Joshua Polley -a stunning 13 year old boy from Broadway! Dana and Warren were silly and sweet, with whip-smart wit. They started off with a great duet, "Just in Time," with swinging Guest Host Barry Levitt at the piano and a special treat of Jon Burr - who joined in on a lot of songs throughout the evening - on upright bass.  For the mid-show set, they alternated solos and duets. Warren performed a hotly arranged "Sing for Your Supper/Sing/Sing a Song," followed by Dana performing the hilarious "Dingy," which only proved just exactly how filthy the mind of the audience was.  Then, Warren returned with a beautiful rendition of "That's All."  At the end of the night, the two of them shared microphones, laughs, and a roving moustache to sing "Quando Quando."

You can catch more of Dana's hosting abilities at "Dana Lorge's Variety Show" at The Metropolitan Room comes by once a month! 7pm on August 14, September 18, October 16, November 13 and December 18th in 2015.  34 West 22nd St., NYC.

Quick Wrap: Barry's Corner

Barry Levitt's fingers were flying through the keys in his little Corner of the room.  He started out by performing a fast-fingered original composition, "When it Rains," which also featured Jon Burr on bass. It had some beautiful chord changes, which passed by effortlessly. He then dextrously did a jazzy rendition of "Pennies from Heaven," including a wonderful instrumental/vocal break with Jon's bass.  To complete his set, Barry played a beautiful samba number...I'll add the name once I find it from Barry. :)

On September 2, 2015, Barry Levitt's original work will be the featured subject for the show "Gary Crawford Sings the Barry Levitt Songbook." 7:00 pm at The Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd St., NYC.
