The Salon Wrap-Up for December 16, 2018: "Endings & Beginnings"

It's our last Salon at Etcetera, Etcetera!  Thank you to those of you who joined us!  What a wonderful night -- our co-host was the fabulous Lennie Watts!  Lennie opened the night with the fantastic "I Just Wanted You To Know."  He opened the second set with the hilarious "Let It Go" parody, "Let It Snow," and closed the evening with the marvelous "It Goes Like It Goes" and the rockin' "Takin' It To The Streets."

The brilliant Mr. Watts is a multiple MAC, Bistro, and Nightlife Award-winner, and is also the Artistic Director and CEO of SINGNASIUM, "Keeping the arts ALIVE by helping vocal artists THRIVE in New York City."  No bigs.  For information on SINGNASIUM 2019 winter/spring classes, email Lennie at lwatts@singnasium.org.

Quick Wrap - Classical Corner

We're celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Leonard Bernstein!  Mark started the Corner by reading from Bernstein's script from the 1950s and '60s TV series Omnibus. It was on Beethoven's 5th Symphony, and is found in the book The Joy of Music.  And, coordinating with this script, today we are also celebrating 24 Beethoven's 248th birthday!

Mark told us that for this 1954 episode, Bernstein had the entire first page of Beethoven's 5th painted on the stage, with all of the instruments' individual lines painted out -- with the actual musician of their respective instruments on the front of their line!  Mark then read the script as it was read on the show.  And, as the pièce de résistance, Mark played the piano version, Franz List's, 1st moment of Beethoven's 5th.
