Pretty women!
What a night! We had our marvelous guest host/piantist, Bobby Peaco, and the wonderful Helane Blumfield, Lynda Rodolitz, and Peggy Schwartz as our co-hosts! In an interview with Playbill magazine, Jerry Herman called Bobby "the best show pianist I have ever heard." No bigs. Bobby worked closely with Mr. Herman and appeared in his Off-Broadway revue, "Showtune." At the Helen Hayes Theater in Nyack, NY, he was the onstage pianist/music director for writer/director Blake Edwards' "Big Rosemary." For his work over the years in cabaret and nightclubs, he has received (count them) NINE MAC Awards and three Bistro Awards, and has music directed Julie Wilson, Dawn Hampton, Terri White, Kristine Zbornik, and Emmy-nominee Jackie Hoffman, among many others. With Ms. Hoffman, he composes music for her original songs, many of which can be heard on the CD Jackie Hoffman Live at Joe's Pub.
Our co-hosts started the night singing "The Secret Of Life" with guest Bobby Peaco. Lynda Rodolitz opened the second set with "100 Easy Ways," followed by Helane Blumfield singing "That's Life," with Peggy Schwartz rounding things out with "Let Me Grow Old." The three (joined by Bobby) closed the evening reprising "The Secret Of Life." Lynda, Helane, and Peggy will be appearing with Debbie Zecher at Don't Tell Mama in "4 Women, 4 Stories" on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 7pm.
Salon Spotlight
We had the pleasure of welcoming Taylor Beyer as our Salon Spotlight this evening! She started with her hilarious parody of "Dance: Ten, Looks: Three," followed by her parodies of "I Enjoy Being A Girl" and "Maybe This Time."
Taylor will be appearing in her show "And The Spoon Ran Away With The Spoon -- A Lesbian Cabaret" on May 21st at 53 Above, June 12th, June 21st, June 26th at Don't Tell Mama, June 28th at The Duplex, and June 30th again at Don't Tell Mama -- all will be at 7pm.
Quick Wrap - Bobby's Corner
Bobby performed three awesome songs for us, the first two, "New Orleans Louisiana Blues" and "I Found The End Of The Rainbow," written by Bobby and Dawn Hampton, and the third, "Life Is What You Make It," written by Dawn Hampton herself in 1963 when she was told that after a surgery, she wouldn't be able to speak, let alone sing!
