The Salon Wrap-Up for July 21st, 2019: "Light In The Dark"

Our very own light ... Mark Janas is back!  While we have had some AMAZING guest hosts/pianists, everyone was thrilled to see and hear Mark again!  And joining Mark tonight as our fabulous co-host was the phenomenal Michael Osso!  Michael started our evening with the beautiful and moving "A Light In The Dark" from Next To Normal.  He opened the second set with songs from his cabaret show, "Words Matter," which were "What More Can I Say," "Something To Save," and [a personal favorite of mine] "Old Friend."  He closed the evening with "You're There Too."

Michael will return to Don't Tell Mama on Thursday, September 5th, and Saturday, September 7th, both at 7pm in "Words Matter."

Salon Spotlight

Our Salon Spotlight tonight was the wonderful 2-time Bistro and 3-time MAC Award-winner Meg Flather!  Meg started with "Open A New Window," continued with "Outbound Pane," and closed with the touching "Why Can't I Forget Him?"  Meg also brought up special guest, the marvelous Sally Darling, to sing "Only See You."

Meg will be appearing at Don't Tell Mama on July 28th at 5pm in "Outbound Plane."  Her "Meg Flather Songs: A Cabaret Sisterhood" returns to Don't Tell Mama on September 14th at 4pm, October 6th at 4pm, and November 2nd at 5pm.  Her albums are available on iTunes, and her book, Home Shopping Diva, is available on Amazon.

Quick Wrap-Up: Classical Corner

The incomparable Mark Janas was extraordinary tonight. The piano was even missing a D, but his brilliance didn't let it show.  Mark's piece tonight was the Franz Liszt piano transcription of the Liebestod (Love-Death) from Richard Wagner's opera "Tristan und Isolde."  The piece constantly switches from tense harmonies to such sweetness in the melody with such longing and such love -- a powerful example of "light and dark."
